Exploring Adobe Firefly's Structure Reference Feature

Adobe Firefly empowers anyone, at any skill level, to explore, ideate and bring their creative vision to life. It has been a year since Adobe Firefly was launched. To date, people from all over the world have used Firefly to generate over 6.5 billion images and counting!

Recently, Adobe has rolled out a significant update to Firefly: the Structure Reference capability. This exciting addition lets you use an image as a template to easily create variations with the same layout, bypassing the need for perfect prompts to match your creative vision. By utilizing this powerful tool, users can enhance their workflow efficiency and elevate the quality of their designs with ease.

In this blog, we'll explore the vast potential of this feature and see how it can transform your creative projects.

Let's use the image below as our reference or base image. Set this image aside for now and we'll use it once we start generating images.

1. Head over to firefly.adobe.com and log in to your Adobe account. With your Adobe subscription, you'll get 1,000 credits each month to use this tool, which refreshes automatically.
2. On the home page, type in your prompt to start generating an image
3. Or you can also go to the Community page, found on the top-left side of the menu bar, and choose any image you like.
4. For this example, we'll choose the highlighted image below:
5. Next, you'll be taken to the interface where you can adjust the parameters to fit your preferences and style. Take a look at the two areas highlighted in the image below:
6. The 1st highlighted area shows the prompt panel, which has a ready-made prompt with the necessary specifications to help you create your desired outcome.
   
7. The 2nd highlighted area shows the structure reference panel. Here, you can select or upload an image to use as a base. This is where the reference image we showed earlier will be utilized.
   
8. Let's upload the reference image we showed earlier to the structure reference panel and then adjust the strength setting. The strength will affect how much the generated image will follow the structure or integrity of the reference image. There are three levels to choose from: low, medium and high strength
   
9. Now it's time to start generating! Let's check out how the differences in strength will affect the final image: Medium Strength (Default Strength settings)
   
   Low Strength
   
   High Strength

Bonus tip: Adjusting the Style settings

You can also add more style to your generated image with the Styles panel. Similar to structure references, you can upload your own image or choose a style from the selection.

In this example, we'll choose the red and blue neon style and see how it will affect our overall image:
